Jordan Corey
Interview by Chris Koppers/images courtesy of Jordan Corey

Jordan got what it takes. She delivers the finest Indie/Soul/rock tunes in town!

Please learn more about her outstanding music:

What is your current project for the upcoming months?

In the upcoming months I am gigging like a madwoman. Playing all around LA & the Southern California area rockin out & promoting my album, "Do Me Wrong". I also JUST (literally just) got out of the studio cutting my second EP, which I am incredibly excited about!

How would you describe your style? What are the key elements for your music?

If I had to put my music into a genre it'd have to be something like indie/rock/soul. My style. Now thats a tougher one. I would say my style is to deliver honest music in a badass take-no-prisoners kind of way. Is that considered a style? haha The key elements for my music would first and foremost be the content - what is being said in these songs - lyrics are incredibly important to me. I really like to take my time crafting them. From there, its creating an arrangement that is just as powerful as the words being said. I want my music to have a heartbeat, I want people to be able to hear the sweat. So for my record, a key element was having real people come and play real instruments. If you hear a B3, its a B3. The wonky mellotron sound is actually a mellotron and so on. I love the imperfection in music because that, in itself, becomes something perfect. Here is a link to my EPK as well :) "Making Of 'Do Me Wrong' "

How did all start? What will be your plan for 2013?

It all started when I was 14 and started writing music, but it wasn't until I was 18 that I chose to make this my career and pursue it with everything I had. My plan for 2013 is to keep playing, keep writing, keep grinding, and to release my second EP :)

Can you tell us the story, the making of, behind your song "Heart of Stone"?

Dan Dixon and I co-wrote this song together. So "Heart of Stone" started as a dope midi-instrumental with some drone-y "heyheyhey" parts (which are now coincidentally the chorus of the song) that Dan sent over. Once I heard it, I fell in love & the rest was history. "Heart of Stone" was actually the first song we wrote together and the first official song that we put on the record. At the time when I was writing this I had been seeing someone for quite a while, but for some reason I was growing gradually unhappy in the relationship. So "Do Me Wrong", and this song in particular, stemmed from those feelings - the journey of a relationship that was not meant to be.

What are your today's challenges in the music world? I would say the entirety of the music industry is a challenge. As we are witnessing today, the "old model" that the music industry has been functioning on since day 1 is collapsing. Social media and the power of the internet have turned the industry on its head. While the power of the internet has made it easier for artists to create & market their music more freely without the restrictions or necessity of a label, it has become independent artists' greatest challenge. There is SO much music out there and it is the artists' job to get through the clutter and get their music to audiences across the web. By far the biggest challenge in the industry is spreading artist awareness and getting your music on the national/global stage.

What do you believe your fans love most about your music?
That is tough to say because music is interpreted differently through every individual. However, based on the feedback I have gotten, fans love the attitude, the production, and the authenticity of my music the most.

Do you have a specific music artist you like to collaborate with?
I love collaborations - two heads are always better then one. As far as artist collaborations go, I can't say I have one specific artist in mind. I find that the best music comes from the most honest and random of places. From the Stevie Nicks' to the unknown independent artists - I'd consider them all :)

Where can we find/purchase your music?

You can purchase my music on iTunes as well as amazon. I also have a handy button on my website that allows you to purchase the record straight through my site! And of course you can listen on YouTube as well as my soundcloud. Otherwise you can stream my music on my Pandora station and/or Spotify - there are also a slew of other streaming sites such as earbits.com that are playing my music. The record is a google search away haha!

Thank you for taking your time, Jordan.
