Andi Silvas - Poor man's daughter
Story and interview by Chris Koppers

Andi is a gorgeous looking lady with a very, very sultry voice and she has some time to tell more about her business, the mission behind "Poor man's daughter", her music in general, and why cereals play a vital role in her life.

Please tell us somewhat about your upcoming release "Poor Man's Daughter". What can be expected?

Great question! I've actually put my solo release on hold to focus on a duet project that I'm thrilled about which will feature the talented Eric Denniston. It all began with one experimental writing session and has quickly become the driving force for the new direction of my sound! Like "Poor Man's Daughter", this collaboration will combine my folk and country vocal roots but with driving beats and other electronic elements. So you can expect more of an indie flare with the release of "Poor Man's Daughter."

What is your favorite song you have performed so far? Can you tell us why?

Slow Motion - was written from personal experience (as are most of my songs) but this one touches a different spot in my heart. It's about a love lost. I kept having flashbacks of the time we spent together in slow motion like a movie, except there was no rewind, restart, or a pause button. I couldn't find a way to actually slow down what was the inevitable. This song is about a feeling so many of us have experienced where you know that it's over and you still remain hopeful in the love you once had. Hanging onto pictures, words, or remnants of anything that may this keep this hope-flame alive. When I sing this song, I always get a lump in my throat. It's as if singing it takes me right back to that time and space.

How would you describe your music? What are the key elements for the music of Andi Silvas?

It's dreamy and visual, and by that I mean soaring vocals, dirty synths, and tribal drums. It's definitely an eclectic spiritual mix of emotions.

How did it all start? What was your "trigger" to perform music?

For as long as I can remember I've been singing. But as a child, I always hid my passion. When we would have music class or plays in elementary school, I would always sing quietly almost whispering the sound. I guess I needed to grow, have some life experience, and overcome fears within myself to be brave enough to share my experiences through music. I always knew I had a special affinity for it. I just couldn't hide it anymore.

What is your long-term goal?

My long-term goal is to leave a mark on the world by doing what I love. Simple as that!

Please complete.
a) My music is...all I know
b) Being on tour is...a dream
c) I love to ... eat cereal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner... (preferably peanut butter Capt'n Crunch).

Do you have a music artist in mind you would love to work with?

Man, there are so many great artists that I'd love to work with. Right now, I'm currently listening to a lot of Leslie Feist and Jack White.
