Love Assassin
Interview by Chris Koppers/images courtesy by Love Assassin

Love Assassin is a frolic rock band from NJ and one of the coolest live acts in town.

Dan Avery, the lead singer of Love Assassin, had some moments to share his thoughts.

He tells us why sweat-proof suits are wanted, why the song "Mr. Carsons" is that important, and why Love Assassin falls in love with standing rooms.

How would you describe your last gigs?

Sheesh...where to begin...Studio @ Webster Hall, City Winery and The Apollo Theater. We feel so honored and privileged to perform at venues of such distinction and amazing history. Knowing that you are standing in the footsteps of artists like James Brown, Portugal. The Man and Michael Jackson is one of the most blissfully overwhelming experiences that any of us have had in our lives.

Any best moments you would like to share with us?

On Wednesday Sept. 26th we returned to the Apollo Theater in Harlem to compete in their Amateur Night competition for the 2nd time. We performed a medley of "Signed, Sealed Delivered(I'm Yours)" by Stevie Wonder and "Dance to the Music" by Sly and the Family Stone. We took home first place and are going to move onto the semifinals on Oct 10th....stay tuned to find out....

Please tell us about your upcoming gigs?

We very pleased about our slot in the Apollo semifinals on October 10th and after that we are performing at The Mercury Lounge on Houston St. in Manhattan on November 23, 2012. This is our first headlining spot since the Studio @ Webster Hall back in May and we are going to make sure that this is one for the history books :)

What kind of venues do you prefer?

Standing room, standing room and STANDING ROOM. We love to be able to see our fans' beautiful faces staring right back at us, singing along and just having a grand ol' time. So much energy is lost when your crowd is forced to sit down. We wanna see everyone getting down with their bad selves.

Where will you see yourself in 2014?

Wiser.

Where do you get your motivation from?

We are fortunate enough to have an amazing support network in all of our lives. When you have family, friends, other artists that push you to do better and genuinely belief in your success, it can be quite inspirational.

Is there somewhat you would like to refine within your band?

We need to find a way to wear suits on stage and not sweat through them. Please inbox all ideas to us on Facebook!

Please complete:

Our music is ...honest
We love to ...play live more than anything in the history of ever.
Our fans are ...dedicated, bad[censored] and ridiculously good looking.

What is your favorite song you have performed so far? Why?

We love to play Mr. Carsons. It really showcases the talent in the entire band and gets the people in the crowd groovin'. However, playing our medley at The Apollo was a damn good time, too :)

Where can we find/purchase your music?
Sit tight, folks.
We are making an album as we speak.
